lifeTESTIMONIAL

Although I had studies martial arts in my 20's. I rediscovered the sport in my 50's after decades of running and several years of knee pain. The classes at BUSHI, while of low intensity relative to the joints, provide a full scale aerobic workout with emphasis on core muscle development, flexibility and fitness in addition to the development of technique unique to Shotokan karate. Just how effective this training is came home to me over the past week.

I have had intermittent issues with back pain throughout my adult life. 1 week ago, I herniated one of the lower disks in my back. Aside from the pain, and believe me this is extremely painful, I developed some numbness of my leg. I went to see a specialist. After a detailed examination he told me that this will resolve without surgery largey because of my core muscle development. He went on to say that he was surprised that someone my age (61) had so much core strength. When I told him I developed my strength through martial arts he was surprised.

When BUSHI talks about "warriors for life" they also mean increased quality of life for those of us who are a bit older. Goals change over time and the ability to develop skills, stay fit, and develop strength in areas that help preserve physical function are terrific goals for mature individuals.
